When people talk about coastal marinas they often mention countries such as Italy or France, who are known for their sophisticated elegance and style. However, fast on the heels and gaining a reputation of perfection and fun, are the marinas that adorn the Aegean Coast of Turkey. They are now becoming a hot spot for those that sail the seven seas and look to explore countries along the way. Let’s take a look at the marinas that are serving the sailors from all walks of life.
The marina in Bodrum can quite possibly be classed as the King when it comes to accommodating boats and yachts. This marina is often used by the rich and famous, not just from Turkey but also by the likes of Catherine and Michael Douglas as well as the soccer player Ronaldo. If you find yourself docking into this marina, then do take time out for some fine dining in the restaurant where food is prepared by one of the best chefs in town.
Gocek is a coastal resort that is often visited by the wealthy and affluent people of Turkey so it is no surprise that they also have an impressive marina that can match any competition hands down. It would be a mistake to look at this place as a marina, because it is in-fact a 24 hour holiday resort. After all, it does have an onsite supermarket, numerous restaurants, cafes and bars as well as a laundry office and breakfast delivered direct to your yacht. You cannot get any better than that when it comes to top notch service.
Setur Marina may not be as big as the other marinas on the Aegean Coast however we believe that it needs a mention because it is a great place to dock in and see the nearby sites of Ephesus and the Virgin Mary’s House. The marina still has all the onsite facilities that you need including a helicopter port, market, rent a car service and an onsite restaurant. Do take care when you are driving your yacht out of the marina, as nearby it is the docking port for some of the largest cruise ships in the world.
The town of Cesme is not often mentioned as a tourist destination however if you go there in high season, you will find it very active and busy with many Turkish people from places such as Istanbul. The town itself has managed to maintain its original character and is definitely worth taking a stroll to explore local places. However if you do not want to go far, the marina has all the onsite facilities that you could wish for including elegant dining in exclusive restaurants, brand name shopping and electric buggies and trolleys to deliver all those shopping bags back to your yacht.
We have mentioned just a small fraction of the marinas that have elegantly thrust the coastal resorts of the Aegean and Mediterranean coast into the limelight. If you do not have a yacht, then do not feel like these areas are on a no-go limit. All marinas keep their shops, bars and restaurants open for anyone to visit while in the area. If you do have a yacht, then we leave you with the words of happy sailing!
