Music by Canadian composers is front and centre at Dancers' Studio West over the next three weekends.
For its 30th Annual Alberta Dance Festival, which kicked off on Thursday the 9th of February with seven new original works under 10 minutes, DSW has teamed up with the Canadian Music Centre to present a wide range of contemporary choreography using music from the Centre's Centredisc recording label.
The exciting and unique venture, which takes place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through Feb. 25, is divided into three programs: Prelude, Etude and Rhapsody.
The purpose behind the pairing - last year it was dance and architecture - is to provide the festival with a natural focus, says DSW artistic associate Veronica Benz.
"Dance touches on all kinds of art forms," Benz explains. "It's musical, it's in time, it's physical, it's in space - and it's human."
