Royal Tyrrell Museum Overview

The Royal Tyrell Museum is home to some of the most rare and intriguing fossils ever found. There are over 130,000 fossils to be seen spanning nine ever-evolving and highly interactive galleries. Examine the bones of an enormous woolly mammoth, marvel at the incredible “Triassic Giant” or stare into the fearsome smile of a T-Rex skull! The chronologically ordered displays take viewers through a treacherous natural history, from the ancient underwater world to the startlingly different ice age. Entertaining games and quizzes test what you’ve learned along the way, including an amazing “Create your own dinosaur” simulation that will let you know whether your creation could have really existed!

At the Royal Tyrell Museum you can do more than just view the dinosaurs- you can get involved! Exciting activities that will engage all age groups are available and should be booked in advance. Discover the thrill of digging for fossils in “The Dig Experience”, where you’ll use professional tools and techniques to discover bones hiding just beneath your feet! Take home your very own dinosaur bone in the “Fossil Casting” class, where enthusiastic guides help you create a realistic fossil replica. The popular “Dinosite!” includes a guided 90 minute hike through the Alberta badlands as you prospect for fossils and investigate real dinosaur remains.

The Royal Tyrell Museum is an absolute must-see for visitors of all ages and is well worth the drive. For the best experience, arrive early and beat the rush!
