Alberta is quite large as are most Canadian provinces. A rough comparison is that the island of Great Britain can fit into Alberta more than three times over. Yet Alberta is easily accessible by air, bus/motorcoach, car, motorhome (RV) and train.
Alberta's two international airports are located in the cities of Calgary and Edmonton. Flights to Alberta are available from most major cities worldwide.
On the ground you may find most towns and cities in Alberta and especially Calgary and Edmonton grow 'out' rather than 'up' so they tend to be spread out. A typical Alberta vacation is equal parts wilderness adventure and urban bustle. Travel by car or Recreational Vehicle (RV) (you might known these motorized campers as a 'mobile home', 'motor home' or 'caravan') is almost essential unless you plan on taking part in an organized tour or staying within Edmonton or Calgary where you can walk, shuttle or transit. Most places in rural Alberta are more than accessible by Greyhound bus. Many visitors combine their Alberta vacation with a visit to our neighbour to the west, the province of British Columbia.
