Our Locals' Tip: Haeding back from the beach and you really don't want to prepare dinner? Get a take-away from O Frango Maluco. It's great value and very tasty.
Chicken Piri-Piri is one of the most delicious things you can eat in the Algarve - it's on everybodys Top 10 list of favorite food. At O Frango Maluco (the Crazy Chicken!) you can enjoy this and much more.
Located just outside Carvoeiro, O Frango Maluco fills a much needed gap in the Carvoeiro restaurant market. They serve up tasty, crispy, finger-lickin' chicken piri-piri! The chicken (usally small chickens, as they are much tastier) are grilled on a spit and seasoned with traditional piri-piri, which is a mixture of herbs, chillies and oils. Not too spicy - just enough to ensure you'll become addicted. Served with plenty of salad, fresh bread and chips this simple meal is one of the Algarve's most famous concoctions.
O Frango Maluco opened its doors in early 2011. There is a spacious indoor dining room and an outside terrace. Aside from the Chicken Piri-Piri , they have a changing lunch menu with some great value options. The range goes from international stroganoff to portuguese bean stews and everything in between. The dinner menu includes steaks, spare ribs, curry, some great american style burgers and the house speciality "tarte flambée" - an traditional Alsation pie with a huge array of fillings.
You can eat in or opt for take-away (very handy on the way back from the beach). While waiting on your take-away chicken you can have a drink at the Frango Maluco café. Here snacks are served all day, you can enjoy tea or coffee, have a glass of wine or a beer while reading a magazine or newspaper, or keeping an eye on all the latest sports on TV.
Breakfasts are served at the café too - continental, american and english. You can also order sandwiches and snacks to go - ideal for a holiday picnic.
If you haven't yet experienced Chicken Piri-Piri, then treat yourself - you'll love it!
Open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 11 pm.
