![]() Captains Table OverviewThe Captain’s Table restaurant can be found on the main street of Alvor, heading towards the harbour. Here you can enjoy wonderful food in an amazing setting, with friendly, professional service at your call.
On the downstairs ouside terrace, you can watch the world go by as you enjoy a Captain’s Table famous Seafood Cataplana. Sipping a good wine, the time just drifts by….Indoors, there are two dining areas. Downstairs, you get to keep an eye on the huge aquarium loaded with fresh crabs and lobsters. Make your choice for dressed crab or Lobster Thermidor, or enjoy some fresh Alvor clams. The upstairs dining room is spacious and private – ideal for groups or private parties.
For one of the most romantic settings around, book a table for two on the small upper terrace. The views across the Ria Alvor are beautiful and the sunsets are simply stunning. Space is limited here, so bookings are advised.
The menu at the Captain’s Table is varied, catering for all tastes, whether fish or meat is your favourite. There is always a great selection of fish and seafood, as well as superb steaks and Chateaubriand. There are several good vegetarian options. Open all day, the daytime menu features salads and snacks too, while the evening menu is more elaborate with some very spectacular dishes – all beautifully presented. Special mention for the Fish cooked in Salt - a house speciality. and for some show-cooking flair, enjoy table-side flambées - those flambéed strawberries are not to be missed!
The new roof terrace at the Captains Table is set to be one of the best pre and post dinner drinks spots in Alvor. With fantastic views, you can enjoy a relaxed drink while studying the menu and contemplating another arduous day in the Algarve.
The Captain’s Table is an Irish-Portuguese partnership. Cathy and Rogerio are well known to Alvor’s many regular visitors and they make sure all their clients are made to feel right at home.

February 2010 Our Favorite -
Monique Forsyth from Northern Ontario, Canada
We have visited Alvor twice in the last 4 years and are going back next month. Many of our diners are at the Captain's Table. We have had beautiful rack of lamb, many different fish dishes, excellent desert and of course the wine and port to go with it.
We have had great service during all of our meals there. From conversations with George, the Chef and the owner who made a point of wishing us a good trip home and thanking us for dining at his establishment. We found the prices acceptable. Looking forward to seeing everyone once again.

December 2009 Good Food but better value elsewhere
I used to be a regular at the captains table and couldnt really fault it, although it was slightly more expensive that what was around it (still very reasonable though).
Have since found other places that maybe offer better value, some of which offere better food too.

May 2009 Great Restaurant - Good Value!
Melanie from Silves
We live here and had some friends over. We have found the review very interesting and went to try this restaurant and we loved it! We started off with some bread, carrotts, olives and home made fish cream. We all had starters (soups, clams and cheese) which were very pleasant. As main courses we had opted for fish dishes (curry, sword fish, monkfish) and all of it was just perfectly cooked. The restaurant was quite busy that night, but the waiters were always there when we wanted something and they were very friendly. All in all this was a great dinner and we can only recommend this place. We will be back for sure!
