 Café Inglês Restaurant OverviewAdd Café Inglês to your Must Do list right now! This is without doubt one of the most interesting and charismatic places in the Algarve. Nestled beneath the castle walls, Café Inglês in Silves serves food, music, conversation, art and atmosphere.
Housed in a 19th century, oriental styled building, Café Inglês sits snugly by the walls of Silves castle. Dating from Moorish times, the castle dominates this ancient settlement, the warm red stone, casting a unique light across the town. From the Café Inglês terrace you can almost touch the stones of the gothic Cathedral, almost touch history itself.
Café Inglês is more than just a café though. Aside from enjoying great food and your favorite drinks, Café Inglês is a wonderful meeting place for music, art, ideas and culture. There are regular live music concerts, with everything from jazz, rock-pop, latin jazz and African music as well as amazing jam sessions. The walls of Café Inglês serve as an art gallery with regularly updated exhibitions.
During the summer months the terrace serves as an open air stage, with the castle as backdrop. In the winter the high ceilings, wooden floors, art works and warm decor make for a cozy, intimate dining room.
The menu at Café Inglês is like the music - multi cultural. There are freshly made pizzas and pastas and wonderful salads. There are tasty snacks such as nachos, generous steaks with your sauce of choice, Portuguese cod and grilled fish as well as vegetarian options. The desserts include home-made favorites apple crumble and banoffi pie as well as almond cake and carob cake.
Special mention for the All You Can Eat Pizza nights – Tuesday to Thursday you can eat as much pizza as you can for just €7,50! (until March 2012).
