Quinta dos Vales Winery and Art Centre

Quinta dos Vales is a truly unique project – an internationally recognized winemaking estate, a centre for arts and events, a small animal farm and a fantastic holiday retreat.

Located in the Algarve countryside near Portimão and Carvoeiro, Quinta dos Vales is a 50 hectare estate that has evolved from a sleepy farm to one of the leading wine producers in the Algarve. On the undulating hills grape varieties unique to Portugal, such as Touriga Nacional, flourish, as well as international varieties (Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Aragonez and Viognier).

The grapes are harvested by hand at Quinta dos Vales and then pressed and fermented, under strict quality control, using the most advanced techniques. The wine is then stored in French oak barrels. Although a newcomer to Algarve winemaking, Quinta dos Vales has already an impressive array of national and international awards. You can sample some of these wines onsite at the wine tasting room.

Quinta dos Vales is known not only for its wines, but also for the intriguing sculptures that are dotted round the grounds. Different shapes, sizes, styles and materials are represented – there are abstract stone sculptures, colourful painted bears, giant hippos and ballerinas, bronze figures and mosaic covered elephants. This symbiosis of art and wine is quite unique and makes a visit to Quinta dos Vales even more enticing. It also creates the perfect stage for weddings and events.

The grounds at Quinta dos Vales are home to several guesthouses which are an unusual and perfect retreat for relaxing holidays. The simple and traditional exteriors belie the luxurious interiors. The surroundings are wonderfully tranquil and yet Quinta dos Vales is only a short distance from holiday resorts and several golf courses. Guests can witness firsthand the day to day work of a quality winemaking farm, can visit the petting farm replete with llamas, vietnamese pigs, goats and horses, or simply enjoy the unique artwork and atmosphere.
