The interior of this beautiful region is dotted with winding earthen tracks and tiny villages that allow you glimpses of a style and pace of life that is fast disappearing. Travelling in a convoy of 4 X 4 jeeps, you leave the coastal resorts behind and explore the white-washed villages, orange and lemon orchards and eucalyptus groves. You learn of the local flora and fauna, of the old traditions and customs still practiced in this area, of the secrets of harvesting the cork trees of their precious bark. You visit a small farm, sample some local honey and see where the “medronho” is distilled. Medronho is a very potent local drink made from the berries of the arbutus tree. It will apparently cure whatever ails you! The day includes a tasty lunch of chicken piri-piri in a local restaurant.

We are back home in Canada now but I would like to say we really enjoyed the PORTITOURS safari trip, our driver "Chicken" George was fantastic, we learned a lot about the region and had fun doing it, lunch was the best we had in our week in the Algarve, all the food was good, this lunch just seemed better, melt in your mouth pork loin.

This day is a brilliant day out for all ages lots to see and explore with loads of info given in a fun way. Ren was our tour guide for the day he was just brilliant couldnt have asked for better he was great fun v.polite and it was easy to see from him how he loved the place and people and they in return seemed to love him.It was just a brilliant day plenty of fun and laughs and you get to see the real algarve by doing this tour. We had a beautiful lunch including wine and we stopped in places along the tour for water or toilet break. Ren gave us so much information about the area including the cork trees,honey,orange,lemon trees,wildlife etc he was just brilliant could not have asked for better guide. we were collected at our hotel and dropped off there again.I was sad when the day ended it was a brill way to finish our holiday i would recommend this tour to all ages. ren your a true star thanks for making my last day so enjoyable!

We have been going on and off to the Algarve for the last 20 years. Me and my family usually go on one of the SUPERB Safaris.We have been to most parts and each time it has always been really,good fun.Highly rate this trip Shall be going again this September 2010.

we were picked up from our hotel by a very polite well spoken person.we didnt no just what to expect but was very happy with the hole day it was made better for us by the driver who take pride in telling us so much about the day and had great knollage of his saroudings many thank again

We went on the portitours jeep safari and river cruise. Had a fab day out. Our guide 'Chicken George' really made the day. He told us lots of info about the area and was funny and entertaining. Nothing was too much trouble and he made sure everyone was having a great day. Not the cheapest of trips but was worth it!!!

We did a couple of days out on our last stay in the Algarve and this was by far the best. Its good for all ages - kids and adults enjoy it. not cheap but worth the money. You get a full day with your own driver, a good lunch including wine! and lots of information. Plus it's fun! we are happy to recommend it.
