Drug Advice for Amsterdam

Amsterdam and drugs
Amsterdam is famous for its tolerance and sale of cannabis and other forms of soft drugs. With other nations enforcing strict laws on sale and possession of any form of drugs, most tourists consider Amsterdam to be a safe haven for smoking up. Amsterdam has many coffeeshops, which deal in the sale of drugs. These are not ordinary coffeeshops, and usually coffee is just a secondary item on their menu. You are more likely to find their menu containing items like hash and grass. However, there is some important drug advice to adhere to before you decide to go.

Latest regulations on drug use in Amsterdam
First off, the government has introduced some stringent laws to check drug consumption and sale. As of now, Amsterdam has differentiated between hard drugs (cocaine, LSD, ecstasy etc) and soft drugs (hash, grass, cannabis). Hard drugs are banned, and consumption is punishable by law. Soft drugs are usually treated as a minor misdemeanor, and mostly ignored. Coffeeshops are not allowed to advertise sale of drugs, so you will need to go inside and ask to see the menu. Also, there’s a limited quantity of drugs one can buy. A coffeeshop can only sell about 5 grams of drugs to one person.

How to go about It?
Most people, coming from countries which have banned drugs, are usually surprised and confused at the blatant sale of drugs. Don’t worry, just go to the nearest coffeeshop and ask for the item you prefer. Bear in mind that the quantity and quality of drugs is usually stronger and better than the one you get in your country, so act cautiously and don’t smoke large amounts on the first go. Also, the Dutch people do not like stoners acting crazy and creating a scene in public, so just keep telling yourself that you’re fine, keep calm and enjoy the tripping. The Dutch are really quite friendly people to talk to, unless you get on their bad side and most people speak fluent English here, so language won’t be a problem. The locals usually don’t mind helping tourists with drug advice here in Amsterdam, so go ahead and fire away.

Coffeeshops in Amsterdam: Your ticket to smoking up!

Coffeeshops opened up in Amsterdam in about 1970, with the oldest and probably most famous coffeeshop being the Bulldog. Earlier the laws were quite relaxed, for example sale of drugs and alcohol in the same shop was allowed. Nowadays, a shop must specify whether it’s a coffeeshop or a bar, so no coffeeshop can sell alcohol along with drugs. Also, one must prove with an ID that he/she is above 18 years to be served drugs. Once you’re over with these little hiccups, you can sit back, relax and enjoy that trippy feeling. Along with that, if it’s your first time having drugs in Amsterdam, be sure to drink loads of sweetened water. That will help a lot, trust us!

Other delicacies on the menu

Coffeeshops in Amsterdam also sell space cakes, hash cakes and brownies or space tea, which also contain drugs. They usually contain very potent levels of drugs so you better be careful. Take 1 slice, and just take it easy as the effect starts in about an hour; it’s extremely slow but when it does start, it can be very strong. More than 1-2 slices and you’ll be in Lalaland without any chances of returning back for a very, very long time.
