The renovated building in 1912 opened its doors to swimmers of all ages, and claims to have an average 500 swimmers in a day ever since. The place is popular with families living in Amsterdam or visiting the city for a vacation as well as regular swimming enthusiasts.
Services Offered The Zuiderbad has deep and shallow sections in the same pool, distinguished by means of ropes. The shallow section, suitable for children and for swimming lessons, is 8m long and 15m wide. The deep end, for adults and trained swimmers is about 23m long and 15m wide. The water temperature is maintained at 27 degrees on an average. The facility has tried to preserve its old interiors and has even kept the sand water-filter intact, all the while installing the modern water-filter with a capacity of 700litres for 24hrs clean bathing water. Their whirlpools, saunas and sunbeds, available on extra charges are a particular delight for those looking for recreational activities on a weekend or even on a mid-week holiday. The facility provides swimming lessons for men, women and children as well as aqua jogging. The pools have a special facility for nude bathing too, available on request and at additional rates.
Prices, Timings and Other Information The Zuiderbad is open Monday to Friday, usually between 7am and 10pm, barring Mondays when it shuts at 6pm for swimming lessons and Sunday when it functions between 10am and 3.30pm. Children below 8yrs, with or without proper swimming training, need to be accompanied by adults aged 18yrs or above, in appropriate swimwear. ID’s are required in such cases, especially for the accompanying adults. Guests may take a single entry ticket into Zuiderbad or purchase cards valid for multiple entries over a period of 1 year. It is best to check with their office for current and updated rates. |
