Its official that summer time is now in full flow and all around the coastal resorts of Turkey, people are flocking to beaches and swimming pools to cool off from the mid-day heat. While the locals retreat back to air conditioned rooms for an afternoon siesta, we understand that when you visit Turkey you want to be out and about enjoying the sites and experiencing the delights that Turkey has to offer. With this in mind, we have put together the perfect guide on how to survive the heat of summer in Turkey.
Drink Plenty of Ice Cold Water
You may already know this tip however we cannot emphasis it enough. When the body is hot, it loses a lot of liquid through sweat so buy an ice-cold bottle of water and keep it with you at all times. It is not only healthy but enormously refreshing as well. If your plans are to party the night away and you wake up with a hangover, ensure a glass of cold water is your first action before anything else.
The Hours of 12 to 3
From 12 noon to 3pm, the heat and sun steps up a notch so if you start to struggle physically or feel that your skin is burning, head away from the sunbeds and find an area in the shade. If you are out and about exploring the resorts or the many wonderful historical sites, consider taking a parasol or umbrella with you to shield and protect you from the mid-day sun.
What factor is Your Sun cream?
The last thing you want on a fantastic holiday to Turkey is to get sunburned. Make sure you start off your holiday with a high factor of sun cream, then downgrade as your skin becomes used to the sun. Remember that if you go swimming, you should also reapply that sun cream to prevent any nasty surprises. If you do find yourself with burnt skin, then don’t wait to react. Find a chemist immediately and apply some soothing and refreshing cream to the affected areas.
Pay Attention to the Signals That Your Body Sends
The human body has ways of telling us when it cannot go on any further. If you feel tired, sick or have a lack of energy pay attention to those warning bells. Instead of being in the mid-day sun, lie down in a cool air conditioned room. Don’t partake in any strenuous activities and ensure that you are wearing light and loose clothing that does not attract the heat of the sun. It is a well-known fact that wearing black can be a disastrous in the heat of summer.
Turkey is a great destination when the summer time arrives, however make sure you look after yourself and protect yourself from the heat of the sun, especially in the months of July and August. By looking after yourself, you will ensure that you have a fantastic holiday and return home with a golden brown tan rather than a lobster red one!
