There is another world than socializes here in the south. The southern suburbs are located on the coast of the Saronic Gulf, stretching from Piraeus to cape Vouliagmeni, around 30 minutes from the Athens centre. Take a drive and feel amazed by the astonishing beauty of the Saronic Gulf. Sea is the key word here…Beautiful, crystal clear, blue waters. The best and most popular beaches are found here. The locals are proud, soften by the cool breeze and toughened by the strong sea winds. There are swimmers here until as late as end October.
We could easily start with Piraeus, the third largest Mediterranean port, the gateway from Athens to the islands. Although harmonically joined with the city of Athens, Piraeus is a totally distinct place, a wonderful area. The most special parts to visit are certainly Kastella hill and Mikrolimano. Kastella, a picturesque residential area with steep sreets and stairways (great area to explore on foot), is built into the hillside of Profitis Elias church, overlooking Mikrolimano, meaning 'small port'. Mikrolimano is a pleasant harbour famous for its excellent, seaside fresh fish restaurants. The small bars overlooking the harbour are usually crowded, especially during the summer months.

Next to Piraeus, on the coastal bay of Faliro, a massive recreational and cultural park is being planned, which will include sports facilities centres, aquarium, and birds’ garden. Neo Faliro hosts the Stadium of Peace and Friendship. In Paleo (Old) Faliro, in Trocadero, one can visit the Nautical Museum and the momentous, most important warship of recent Greek history, the battleship Averof.
Glyfada is the most cosmopolitan southern suburb; the 'Riviera' of Athens, with the gorgeous marina, with plenty of restaurants and cafés, great nightlife and trendy shopping area.

Vouliagmeni, is an attractive area, which seems to have sneaked the most amazing views. The drive around is like taking a ride in a fairy's fairytale. Abundant greenery, elegant villas, amazing beaches, exclusive hotels and the unique, therapeutic Vouliagmeni Lake.
