- Getting to and from Girona Airport
Girona Airport is located around 60 miles North East of Barcelona which results in a transfer time of about 1 hour and 20 minutes when travelling by train and just a little longer when travelling by bus. There are 3 main methods of transport between Girona Airport and Barcelona City Centre available to you. Potentially the easiest and most efficient method of making your transfer is using the Barcelona Bus.
Barcelona Bus:
The ‘Barcelona Bus’ company are separate from Ryan Air, yet they arrange their services to coincide with the arrival and departure of Ryan Air flights into Girona. The bus stops right outside the airport and will take you to 'Estacio d' Autobusos Barcelona Nord' (Barcelona's main bus terminal) in the city centre. Just ask at the airport information desk if you cannot find the bus stop outside of the terminal. When you get to Barcelona, you can take the Metro at 'Arc de Triomf' which is a 5-10 minute walk from where the bus will drop you off. A one-way ticket costs around €12 per person whilst a return journey will cost around €21

RENFE Train:
Your second option is to catch the overground train from Girona to Barcelona. However, this method of transport will require an initial taxi ride to the centre of Girona in order to get to the train station. The airport is not directly linked by train. The taxi between the airport and rail station will cost you around €20 Euros. However, should you choose this option, you can check schedules and prices here. Remember to agree a rough price before you enter a taxi.
The trains are very well linked within Barcelona itself, and you can make a connection to anywhere in the city very easily upon arriving at Barcelona Sants station.
Your return journey would be the exact reversal of this journey and you can use the RENFE Journey Planner!

Car Hire:
Although this is a great option for ease and convenience. Once you are actually in the city, having a car is not always the best in terms of parking it! Using Barcelona’s buses and Metro system is a much better option. However, you might want to consider renting a car and dropping it off in the city upon your arrival here. Most of the rental car companies operating in Spain offer a 'drop-off' location service.
Driving from Girona Airport into Barcelona should take you around 1 hour and 20 minutes. The 60 mile journey itself is relatively straightforward. The main road you will be using is the ‘AP7’, which is a toll motorway, so do remember you will need some funds handy to pay your way. A motorway toll in Spanish is ‘peaje’ or in Catalan ´peatge´. The easiest barrier to head for is the ´manual´ gate, where you pay by cash. The other barriers you will see are payable using credit cards. The second toll coming up will require you to take a ticket. Keep this ticket to show to the attendant at the next toll booth. Take a Taxi:
A Taxi to Barcelona will be in excess of €100 euros which is potentially more than your flight cost you! We would not recommend this option! Save your money for the treats that await you in Barcelona! If you do want to take a taxi however, agree a rough price before you depart.
