Brits A-Bored

The British have a long and rich history of exploration, from the voyages of Captain James Cook to the adventures of Sir Ranulph Fiennes. But it seems these days the trend is being bucked, with almost a quarter of holiday-makers admitting they will not venture more than four miles from their resort this half term.
The survey, from Budget, also highlighted that within that circle of comfort, the majority of Brits will keep sightseeing strictly limited to local bars and restaurants (78%), the beach (76%) and the… wait for it… supermarket (67%).
Many, it seems, are simply lacking in confidence. Nearly three quarters admit they would like to see more of the country they visit, but are put off by the possibility of getting lost (30%) and concerns about driving abroad (24%). Others worry about not being able to speak the local language (26%) and some put it down to not knowing the best places to visit (20%).
