#TTOT Shout Outs! Topic: On The Water

| August 21, 2012

We’re diving right into the drink this week (as per usual) and piping travel mateys’ of all kinds over to come and party on the good ship #TTOT! We’re talking boating mishaps, buoyancy issues and a few cases of going a bit overboard, but it just wouldn’t be Travel Talk on Twitter without all that now would it? Guess it’s time to drop anchor and plunder the comical depths with our Shout Outs then (let’s just hope no-one harbours deep feelings against us for this)…

The questions this week were:

Q1. What’s the most scenic ferry / cruise you have ever taken?

Q2. What’s the most unique form of water transport you’ve ever been on?

Q3. Describe your favourite water based view.

Q4. What’s the best water-based adventure you’ve had?

Q5. What’s your favourite way to travel on the water?

The only real way to travel on water

The obligatory ‘Tom Cruise’ Shout Out for buoyish charm.

@worldswaiting: Ooh I want to go on the Manly ferry!

The ‘Flipper Off’ Shout Out for pod casting.

@traveldudes: You shouldn’t use dolphins as a transport vehicle. You are just allowed to swim with them, not on them.

The ‘Swan For The Money’ Shout Out and two for the show-off.

@SEA_Backpacker: Does a giant swan-shaped pedalo at Alton Towers Theme Park in the UK count?

The ‘Wing And A Prayer’ Shout Out for nearly having the stuffing knocked out of you.

@Em30b430: In Laos our packed chicken bus drove onto a raft-type construction to float across the river. Never been so scared.

The ‘Stop, Croc and Roll’ Shout Out for close encounters.

@littlelorsie: I was croc watching in Oz when my boat broke down. We had to swap boats by walking a plank over croc infested waters.

The ‘Raft With Attention’ Shout Out for parental supervision.

@Travel_Rich: When I was 6 and my parents let me float out to sea to what in my eyes was an incomprehensible distance. Thought my number was up.

The ‘5 Minute Cyg-a-net Break’ Shout Out for saving yourself a few bob.

@premium_ch: [Go swimming in the lake] every lunchtime! There’s some fish and malevolent swans but it’s nice to just jump in and cool down.

The ‘Pork and Starboard’ Shout Out for salty seaside treats.

@NicoleTravelBug: A Danish bacon cruise was pretty awesome.

The ‘Jelly and I Scream’ Shout Out for creature features.

@InAForeignLand: I’ve seen pretty big ones washed up on the beach, but this was my first encounter with an alive one.

The ‘Bough Out Gracefully’ Shout Out for being a very imPORTant person.

@CruzTravelLady: Once missed my cruise departure and had to jump from the roof of a pilot boat into the side of the ship.

The ‘Just One Amaretto!’ Shout Out for punt-ing up with it.

@ysabs: Oh, I had a drunk gondolier while in Venice. It was funny and scary at the same time.

The ‘Gee Gee Whizz’ Shout Out for bucking the trend.

@Boz23: Tuck your knees behind its legs and ride it like a horse.

For some rather fantastic voyages from a few sea-worthy sorts, check out our round up of Epic Ocean Explorers – it’s enough to get your barnacles itching for an adventure. See you next time for another round of the ever incredible #TTOT! Next week’s topic: Up and Coming Travel Destinations.

About the Author ()

Once upon a time in New Zealand, a very large, very loud, hissing cockroach landed on Hannah’s head. In Florida, she mistook a jellyfish for a plastic bag and was promptly stung. In Newquay, a penguin with murderous intent tried to eat her shoe. Despite all this, Hannah can’t be kept away from touching things that she probably shouldn’t in foreign countries. This is probably a misguided attempt at experiential learning. She has lived in Cornwall most of her life and is still trying to adjust to the time difference in London, despite having moved there many months ago. When she grows up she wants to be a Mexican Luchador.
