Originally a basalt quarry, the Queen Elizabeth Park has become the second most visited park in Vancouver after Stanley Park with over 6 million visitors on average. The 52.78 hectares (130 acres) Park is located between 33rd and 37th Avenues, and between Main and Cambie Streets.
Visitors to Queen Elizabeth Park can enjoy sweeping views in all directions across the city, such as Mount Baker in Washington USA, the Gulf and San Juan Islands southwest, Vancouver Island to the west, and the Coast Mountains to the north. The Park is well-known as being the highest point in Vancouver at 152 metres (501 feet) above sea level.
Queen Elizabeth Park is also home to the Lawn Bowling Club and the Bloedel Conservatory dome greenhouse—open daily, and filled with exotic plants, tropical flowers, colourful Koi fish and over 100 free-flying birds of various species. Admission fees apply. Other attractions in the Park include recreational facilities for tennis, disc golf (played with a Frisbee) and a pitch-and-putt golf course. Visitors may also meet with others to practice Tai Chi—a popular Asian exercise. Seasonal changes to the gardens offer a range of horticultural beauty year round.
Queen Elizabeth Park is managed by the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation.
