Our Local Experts say:
Popularity of local BC craft beers has grown providing fans with unique and flavourful alternatives to mass-produced beers commonly seen in stores. Without doubt the movement for variety and tastier options has created hand-brewed beer culture.
While big beer makers govern a large percentage of the market, microbreweries have been gaining more attention. What is noticeable are folks drinking less of the mass-produced beer and opting for finer craft beer. Many BC brewpubs and microbreweries do not pasteurize or use preservatives, focusing on natural products for a fresher and tastier brew. The world of BC’s craft beers was triggered about decade ago, and since then BC has become known for its creativity and innovation of artisan craft beers. A microbrewery produces a limited amount of beer where small batches are produced using natural ingredients and processes—some with unusual concoctions or using exotic ingredients like saffron and different berries. Not only are new breweries starting up but more restaurants are presenting their patrons with tastier beers. Brewmasters are ever-increasing their experiments with traditional brewing methods, and we like this, especially recommended for going on a tour and sampling at some of BC microbreweries.
