Our Local Experts say:
Wineries and vineyards in BC are most prominent in the Okanagan and Similkameen Valley. Smaller, but just as well known, winegrowing regions include Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, and the rich agricultural Fraser Valley in the Lower Mainland.
The BC wine industry has experienced an extraordinary growth over the last couple of decades winning international respect, and an increasing local wine culture with an appreciation for winery restaurants favoured by foodies. From Pinot Blanc to Cabernet Sauvignon, BC continues to please wine lovers with its variety and first-rate production of food-friendly, world-class wines. In addition BC produces some excellent icewines. The annual grape growth cycle generally begins in the spring time with harvest time starting early to mid-September through to late October. The Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA) designation guarantees a wine’s title of origin—that the wine is 100% from BC—and quality standards in which many BC wineries participate. Many wineries offer tastings, onsite tours and tastings, without doubt, spending a day wine touring and exploring BC wineries is certain to please wine lovers from around the world. Always recommended to contact the winery before visiting for seasonal opening hours.
