Hadjidraganovite kashti

Bulgaria

International Traditional Archaeology and Ethnography

Hadjidraganovite kashti (Hadzhi Dragan's Houses) is perhaps the most strikingly authentic Bulgarian restaurant one can find in Sofia. Located in the very heart of the Bulgarian capital, it is like a time machine that will take you on an adventurous culinary journey to the days of yore where you will not only be treated to the most exciting and abundant traditional Bulgarian dishes but you will also get the chance to learn a lot about the customs and culture of the country.

The restaurant's stunning architectural and interior designs were carefully planned and exquisitely implemented. The restoration of the four houses comprising the restaurant - Zheravna, Koprivshtitsa, Bansko and Melnik - took no less than four years to complete. But it was worth it, as some of the elements and materials used in the process and incorporated in the final design were purely authentic and over 100 years old. Apart from the vast array of traditional objects, clothes and carpets used for decoration, the guests of the restaurant will also have the pleasure to sit and eat on beautifully carved wooden chairs and tables. In summer they can enjoy the cool atmosphere of the garden for forty, whereas in the cold winter evenings they can cuddle around one of the massive fireplaces with a glass of nice red wine or hot rakia in hand.

Perhaps it won't be too surprising to say that the food served at Hadzhidraganovi kashti is the restaurant's biggest asset. Naturally, the menu includes an astounding range of traditional Bulgarian specialties, finger-licking appetizers, succulent meat and vegetable meals and savoury desserts, complemented by an even more impressive variety of Bulgarian wines and rakias. Don't miss the opportunity to taste the tender whole chicken prepared in clay egg, the mushroom soup or one of the other original recipes the restaurant is so famous for.

Your unforgettable gastronomic experience will be garnished with a fair portion of traditional Bulgarian tunes. They are performed live by three talented musicians every day from Tuesday to Saturday and everyone who is eager can join the fun and learn how to dance like a real Bulgarian.

Thanks to its attractive location, the restaurant is easily accessible from every direction either by public transport or car and there is always a place to park.
