Cairo Weather

Cairo experiences an arid, desert climate throughout the year, combining high humidity with intense heat.  Broadly speaking, the city has two seasons; from May to October a scorching hot summer with constant sunshine, and from November to April a milder winter with cool nights, occasional overcast skies and a slim chance of rain.

Summer temperatures peak at around 40 degrees centigrade, while 13-19 degrees is more common in winter, dropping below 8 degrees at night.  Tourism tends to peak between December and February, when conditions are most bearable.  Visitors in March and April may experience strong wind storms which blow sand around the city.

It is recommended to wear light cotton garments during the summer in Cairo (anything to remain as cool as possible), while heavier cotton is appropriate for the daytime in winter, and woollen garments and coats in the evening.
