Les Vieilles Luges OverviewLes Vieilles Luges is a top secret in Les Houches. It is easily one of the most romantic and cosy mountain restaurants we have ever been in.
Claude and Julie assure you of a warm welcome and you can sit down for a full meal at lunch time, a little coffee to pick you up in the afternoon, or if there's a group of you, tuck in to a good meal in the evening.
This mountain restaurant is easily accessible in winter on skis or board from the main pistes of Les Houches, or you can snowshoe up a path to the restaurant in around 20mins from the little Maison Neuve car park area.
In summer Les Vieilles Luges is a welcome stop for hikers on the famous GR5 route and the garden is ablaze with colour, completely decked out in flowers.
One of the specialities of Les Vieilles Luges is 'farcon'. This is a traditional Savoyard dish slow cooked in a dish that can only described as a flowerpot! It's full of cheese, potatoes, lardons and prunes so will definitely fill you up!
And dessert is pretty special too. You might be in luck and be there when Julie has made her very tasty pavlova... |

January 2011 A warm welcome
Caro and Nick from Les Houches
We went to Les Vieilles Luges on New Year's Day and despite the team probably all having a late night the night before, we were given a warm welcome by Claude and his team. The setting is really suberb and the food more than matches! Copious, homemade and tasty, I scoffed Boeuf Bourgignon and my boyfriend enjoyed duck. We both had 'farcon' to accompany the dish which was lovely. A must.
One small personal plea - we were surrounded by English-speaking persons (some of whom lived in the Valley) and it would have been nice if they could have made the effort to at least say a 'merci' in French. I honestly don't know how the staff kept smiling - I was ashamed of my compatriots!
