Sanglard Overview

One of Chamonix’s biggest sports shops, and the only one with on-site parking, Sanglard is located on the western fringe of the town (heading towards Argentière), just next to the big Mont Blanc roundabout.

Sanglard offers a big choice of popular brands such as Peak Performance, Wild Roses, Falke, Orage, Eider, Icebreaker, The North Face, Merrell, Salomon, Sorel, Meindl, Lowa, Aigle, Quechua, Dynastar, Rossignol and Deuter. They have clothing and equipment for men, women and kids, so you can equip the whole family.

The only Chamonix stockist of Quechua (France’s version of Decathlon), this offers you the opportunity to get all your mountain gear, even if your budget is tight.

Beware of spending your money here
Dissatisfied Skier from London

Friendly enough service but they sold me equipment insurance that turned out not to cover a scratched ski. Upon returning my equipment they charged me an extra 27 euros.
Management response from
Nico, Ski hire manager
We contacted Sanglard and asked them for a comment. The shop said that the insurance is for theft, loss or breakage of skis. If any of these three things happen, rather than paying the full replacement price of the skis and bindings (ie the price it would cost to buy the skis and bindings new) you pay the excess only if you have the shop's insurance. For a top end hire ski that would be 200€. In this case, the ski wasn't bought back in a state fit to be re-hired out as there were gauges on the base of the ski, but it wasn't broken. This meant the customer avoided the 200€ excess but was a charged a flat fee of 27€ for a ski service as the ski needed to be base ground, filled, waxed and edged before it could be rented out again. We recommend that before hiring skis from any ski shop, you read up on any insurance offered so you know exactly what it covers and what would happen in the case of damage, breakage, theft or loss of hire gear and compare this as well with your own travel insurance.
