![]() British Snowshoe Tours OverviewSnowshoe walking means exploring the winter wilderness of the Alps on foot. It is ideal for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, particularly summer hikers looking for a new experience and winter visitors who are non-skiers, or seeking a more peaceful and scenic alternative to downhill skiing.
The Chamonix Valley and surrounding area is blessed with a wide range of possible snowshoeing itineraries to suit all conditions and levels of fitness. This might range from a gentle stroll through silent forest with fresh snow falling, to a fairly strenuous all-day outing to the summit of a mountain on a crystal clear, blue sky day.
Packages with British Snowshoe Tours range from half-day taster walks, to multi-day snowshoeing holidays.
Equipment and transport is included - no experience, or prior planning is necessary. All trips are led by a British International Mountain Leader, usually company director Phil Jarratt. |

January 2012 FABULOUS experience
Melanie from Australia
We had a FABULOUS experience snowshoeing in Chamonix!
As I went with my parents, we chose to go on a gentle scenic walk. The surroundings were just spectacular, and it was amazing to be able to trek through there, like walking through a fairytale. Snowshoeing is such a great alternative (or addition) to skiing.
Kate, our guide, was wonderful- we loved her! Phil was also really great and communicative in the lead up, replying so promptly to my emails and helping me out with everything.
Definitely the highlight of our Chamonix trip!!

January 2012 Phenomenal tour
Tania from Ontario, Canada
I recommend British Snowshoe Tours to ANYONE and EVERYONE. My boyfriend and I went on a guided snowshoe walk with Kate-- a spectacular and personable guide. With British Snowshoe Tours the guides will go at your preferred pace, stop to take photos, and give you all of the information that you want about snowshoeing. This was our first experience snowshoeing and we felt safe and secure being with such a knowledgeable guide. What a great way to experience the Alps!

March 2011 What a great way to get to the top !
Richard Dobson from Lake District UK
Am a walker and not a skier, so was looking for exercise in Chamoix whilst others were skiing. Snowshoeing was suggested by a friend and what a suggestion ! Phil gave us two great days out in the mountains - first day a great walk into the wilderness and the tops above Courmayeur - amazing views and cold (!) - the drive up to our start was good enough, the walking just what was needed and the Italian coffee at the end was well desserved by all. The second walk would have been in Switzerland but the weather got the better of us so we walked above Les Houches - great views as the weather cleared with avalanches visible in the far distance.
Thanks Phil much enjoyed.

February 2011 First time snow shoeing FUN!!
Lisa from London
We went out snow shoeing for the first time. We had no idea what to expect. We had a fantastic day out. My husband and I and our 13 year old son loved the whole experience. It was a nice break from skiing and, as beginner skiers, a better way to enjoy the mountain scenery and get out and get active! We felt we were in very capable and knowledgeable hands and we woulsd not have been able to have this experience without a capable guide. Worth every penny.

December 2010 Unforgettable experience
Susanne Batstone from Menton
I spent a couple of afternoons snoeshowing with Phil over Christmas - totally wonderful experience, stunning scenery and views, picture postcard perfect! Phil is very experienced and knowledgable and helped make the excursions very enjoyable. He is very attuned to individual requirements and provided new challenges increasing my confidence on snowshoes. Lovely mulled wine and Christmas cake too. Have certainly discovered a new passion and wouldn't hesitate to go again perhaps for a longer trek.

March 2010 A Wonderful Active Holiday
Annemarie Peter from Brussels, Belgium
I spent 4 days snowshoeing with Phil in the Chamonix area, which was a fabulous winter holiday and good exercise, too! The technique can be learnt pretty fast and Phil made sure there's enough variety and challenge for me in those 4 days. We hiked through incredibly beautiful and pristine places, winter alpine scenery just cannot get any better, and I learnt a lot from Phil about the area and about mountain walking in general. Absolutely loved the experience, and no doubt I'll do it again.

March 2010 Epic Adventure
Justin Acheson from Surrey
Spent 5 full on days with Phil trekking through the snow without seeing another person the whole time - splendid isolation, breathtaking scenery. Hard graft but worth every single step. Amazing mountain huts, a proper mountain wilderness experience. Would do it all again tomorrow.

March 2010 Birthday treat!
Jess Lippett from London
Had a great evening snow shoe walk with Phil. Phil provided a very informative walk, teaching us about tracks, trees and the local history of the area, things that I had always just taken for granted and missed whilst whizzing down the slopes! The vin chaud was a great warming treat and Phil also provided a fantastic restaurant recommendation. We look forward to going back and doing a full day on another occasion.

March 2010 Reach New Heights
Chris Kirkpatrick from Darlington
Phil explained how to apply and use the snow shoes very clearly and it was surprising how much help they were in climbing the path through the forest to the Chalets de Chailloux where the views across to Mont blanc and its surrounding peaks were stunning. My wife and I had an unforgettable day and we will certainly be doing this again next year.

February 2010 Fantastic First Time Experience
Brian Harkin from Surrey
Myself and my wife spent a fantastic day with Phil snowshoeing through some of the most beautiful alpine scenery I have ever seen.
We had an absolute blast and learned and saw loads of things that you just never get the chance to see when you're on piste.
I have to say the vin chaud which Phil prepared at the top was surprising, lovely and very welcome.
We will definetly do this again (next time with a toddler in tow) !!
