Festival of Lights - Festival de Luz
Costarica
Costa Ricans are a religious people that love to celebrate the holiday season in style. There are many festivals that take place close to Christmas, but none is as large or as brilliant as the Festival of Lights in San Jose. Closing in on its 20th year, this city festival of floats, marching bands, fireworks, concerts, theater, and of course lights gets bigger and better with each passing year. Over one million people flock to the streets of San Jose to watch Mardi Gras style floats with colorfully dressed performers pass by on their way down Paseo Colon and through Sabana Park. If rubbing elbows with big crowds is not your cup of tea, you can watch the parade on national TV similar to the coverage the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in the United States, but we suggest getting out there and experiencing the cheer that most Costa Ricans have during the holidays
