Ayios (Saint) Minas Convent

Ayios (Saint) Minas Convent is a 15th century monastery near the Lefkara  village about 15 minutes from Larnaka town.

The building is a mixture of Byzantine and Gothic styles with the pointed vault of traverse ribs and side porticos, and consists of a church, cloisters and other monastic buildings. On the north and south walls there are two large paintings of Agios Georgios and Agios Minas dated 1757. In addition to their religious duties, the nuns at the convent practise icon painting, along with selling fruit and homemade preserves.

Please note that modest attire is required to enter the church.

Stavrovouni Monastery

Stavrovouni Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in Cyprus and is located about 40km from Larnaka on a steep hill with breathtaking views.  Stavrovouni means Mountain of the Holy Cross.  According to tradition it was founded in the 4th century by St Helena, mother of Constantine the Greats who left a fragment of the Holy Cross at the monastery. 

Women are not allowed to enter the monastery but can still light a candle in the chapel at the entrance.
