Cyprus is a magical destination, and it is not surprising that many couples, from all over the world, choose to get married and enjoy the special days of their honeymoon here.

Larnaka, one of the oldest cities in Cyprus, is a beautiful and picturesque seaside town.

The Municipality of Larnaka is responsible, under the relative law (Marriage Law 104(i) of 2003), to act as the proper authority for civil marriages.

Civil marriages can be solemnized between Cypriot citizens, Cypriots with foreigners and between foreigners.

When the interested parties present all the necessary documents, the marriage can be solemnized either by Notice of Marriage (with this procedure the couple is allowed to get married only after 16 days from the day of their application but not later than 3 months) or by Special Procedure. In the case of Special Procedure the marriage can be celebrated from the first day of their application or less than 16 days.

The civil marriage ceremony takes place in the beautiful, recently restored and renovated, 19th century aristocratic unban mansion, 'The Nikolaidion', located just behind the Larnaka Town Hall, 100 metres from the famous Phinikoudes Promenade and beach.

In order to file an application for marriage the couple has to contact the Civil Marriage Department in order to be informed for the documentation they need to present in order to get married.

Each nationality has different documentation.

Working days and hours are Mondays to Fridays from 7.30 a.m till 3.00 p.m.

Larnaka Municipality celebrates weddings from Monday to Friday. On the day of the marriage, the couple should visit the civil registry offices at 9.00 in the morning in order to present all the original documentation and finalise the translations. Kindly, call in advance to arrange an appointment. 

The ceremony is very simple and takes about 10-15 minutes. During the celebration of marriage the couple, the witnesses and the Marriage Officer signs the certificates and the couple is given one original copy of the certificate of marriage.

For a certified true copy of the Certificate of Marriage the couple must apply at the Civil Marriage Office of the Larnaca Municipality.

The fees for the above procedures of civil marriage are as follows:

Special Licence: 281.90 Euro

With Notice: 128,15 Euro

Each Certfied Copy: 13,65 Euro

Each Apostil stamp (where needed): 20.00 Euro

Each Stamp from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (where needed): 20.00 Euro

For not working hours in the municipal offices: 100 Euro

For weddings celebrated outdoors (hotels, restaurants, etc): 150 Euro

Finally, it is advisable for the couple to contact their Embassies prior visiting Cyprus to be informed about the necessary documentation needed in order for the Embassies to register the wedding.
