The Thai Kitchen Overview

Launched in 2005, the Park Hyatt Hotel where The Thai Kitchen is located is superbly situated on the edge of the creek on the Diera side of Dubai. This distinctly Arabian themed hotel has a wonderful ambience throughout with subtle lighting, minimalist décor and colourings in an array of earthy tones of browns and greys that contrast the beautiful white exterior. On entering The Thai Kitchen the design theme follows through with the addition of wood panelled walls, wood flooring, an array of open space and visibility of three open and immaculate kitchens where the food is prepared.

The delightful Chef Khun Supattra brings authentic flavours and textures from Thailand’s North Eastern Province of Esarn. Her menu equally accommodates family or group dining as well as more intimate arrangements for the sharing of a selection of dishes that boast an explosion of flavours and colours.

Whilst browsing the menu we enjoy a complimentary lemongrass tea and a tasty appetizer of grilled chilli beef seasoned with herbs and spices fresh from the garden of the restaurant. The food is chosen by its cooking or preparation method e.g. wok, salads, clay pots, char grill, fried or steamed. Each portion is roughly the size of a small side plate serving giving you the possibility to try a great range of different dishes without gorging yourself. Our selection included a spicy shrimp ball noodle soup garnished with coriander, pomelo salad, papaya salad, BBQ chicken, sticky rice, green curry, grilled beef with tomato, basil and chilli in a lime dressing as well as some shrimp toast with sesame. Additional rice is available on request and you are given the option of selecting how spicy or not you want your food prepared. Medium was still hot.

Our meal was complimented by a very nice and well-chilled bottle of Pinot Grigio Danzante Fresco Baldi, which at AED 185 was great value and worked well to take the heat out of some of the dishes. Overall the selection of wine was excellent with a good variety of choices from both the old and new world.

During the course of the meal, Chef Khun came to the table to see if we were enjoying our meal and took the time to tell us that the food is freshly prepared from ingredients predominantly flown direct from Thailand. It would have been an underestimation to say we were simply enjoying the food as the extravagance of taste and flavours left us wanting for more. As a finale and with our stomachs bulging, we finished our meal with sweet sticky rice, mango, coconut, taro and corn ice cream – whilst not big fans of deserts this is highly recommended. Compliments to the Chef!

The Thai Kitchen is an experience not to be missed and with a good level of attentive service and outstanding food this definitely rates as one of our favourites in Dubai. All in, the meal for two with the wine and desert came to just under AED 500 and therefore represents not just excellent value but a place you don’t have to save for a special occasion.

Good for brunch, not so for any other day of the week

Excellent value for money here on the Friday brunch. Thai Kitchen separate themselves from other brunches, in that they bring you as many dishes as you want however many times you want. Do try the prawn toast. If you visit any other day of the week, you will find the portions a lot smaller. Highly recommend enjoying the food on the Friday. Perhaps the best Thai in Dubai (although my Thai friend would say Lemongrass is).
