Dubai International Airport is one of the most modern airports worldwide. Just like the city, the airport has gone through an extensive renovation and expansion. As of December 2011, Dubai International ranked the 12th busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic.
The airport has 3 terminals. Terminal 1 is used by all airlines with the exception of Emirates Airlines. Terminal 2 is used mainly by low-cost airlines and tourist charters. Terminal 3 which opened in 2008, is dedicated to Emirates Airlines flights only. Do not miss a good deal to fly Emirates. Thus you will experience an excellent service twice: on board and at Terminal 3.
Marhaba Service
There’s nothing like a friendly face to greet you when arriving in a foreign destination. Dubai International offers an exclusive meet and greet service called, ‘Marhaba’, which means ‘welcome’ in Arabic and reflects the warmth and hospitality of the Arab culture. A dedicated employee in elegant yellow uniform, carrying a sign with your name will meet you at the exit of the airplane. He or she will escort you to the passport control where there is a dedicated line for Marhaba Service and you do not need to wait. Some people might find this very inconvenient after a long night flight or when travelling with children. Once through, you can spend some time shopping in the Duty Free Area while a concierge with a trolley waits for your suitcases. The standard service starts from US$ 26 per passenger.
The Marhaba Service is available on Departure as well. For more detailed information and bookings please click here.
VIP Lounge (Majlis)
This is a luxurious lounge located at Terminal 1. It has its own passport and customs control and offers all kind of refreshments on arrivals and departure. The passengers are met at/taken to the aircraft with a limousine. The only disadvantage is that Majlis does not have direct access to Dubai Duty Free.
Dubai Airport Duty Free
On Arrival: The Duty Free Shop is very small and sells mostly alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and chocolates. This is a good opportunity for you to buy some alcohol. Alcohol in Dubai is sold only in hotels and is very expensive. However be aware of the quota allowed per passenger. All Duty Free employees are very well informed on the rules and regulations.
On Departure: It offers a great shopping experience at great prices. The Duty Free is available to passengers travelling via Terminal 1 and 3. Terminal 2 has a smaller Duty Free area. If you wish to take an advantage and do some shopping you need to be there well before your flight. The Duty Free covers an enormous area and is usually very busy.
The best deals are on Watches, Jewelery, Electronics and Fashion. The prices are around 10% lower than those in Dubai, but are fixed and you can not bargain.
Transportation
All kind of Public transport is available at Dubai International. However we would recommend to use Dubai Taxi, if you do not have any other prior arrangements. There is a taxi stand in front of every terminal.
Most of Dubai's premier hotels offer a complimentary limousine pick- up and drop-off service included in the room rate should you book a Club Room or a Suite. Do not forget to ask!
Complimentary limousine pick- up and drop-off to any place in Dubai is also offered by Emirates Airlines should you fly First or Business Class with them.
