Eastern Cape Regional Overview

The Eastern Cape in South Africa is an enormously diverse, scenic and in large parts, undeveloped region. The long and picturesque coastline of the Eastern Cape stretches from the Tsitsikamma National Park in the west of the province, through South Africa’s friendly city – Port Elizabeth and on up the Sunshine Coast to the Shipwreck Coast of the former Ciskei homelands. From here the coastline continues past East London and on to the spectacular and sub-tropical Wild Coast, home to the Transkei tribe.

In-land the green and rolling hills and valleys around Grahamstown are often referred to as Settler Land or Frontier Country after the European migrants who settled the area in the late 19th century and slightly further north you head into the semi-desert of the Karoo which has some spectacular yet arid landscapes. The world-famous Addo Elephant National Park has wildlife in abundance and the citrus farming regions of the Gamtoos Valley and the Wilderness of the Baviaanskloof are the places to get away from it all.

South Africa’s Eastern Cape really does have something to offer everyone, regardless what type of holiday you enjoy.
