Yiayias Restaurant OverviewIn the leafy, trendy and delightful suburb of Richmond Hill, Port Elizabeth, on the corner of Bain and Stanley Streets is Yiayias Restaurant with a distinctive Mediterranean/Greek flavour. Having recently completed their renovations Yiayias Restaurant looks stunning and they have recently been awarded a liquor licence.
The owner, Michael, who is half Greek and half Lebanese, says his menu changes frequently as he brings in various Mediterranean dishes and flavours. The name Yiayias is Greek for Grandmother and was chosen as most of the recipes used at Yiayias came from his grandmother who instilled his love of good food and cooking. Michael says to enjoy a Greek meal you have to think like a Greek - they insist on good quality ingredients and good company! Yiayias is renowned for warm Greek hospitality and extended families with children are always welcome.
With the option to enjoy an alfresco meal while sitting under enormous trees on the pavement or in the light and airy restaurant there are heaps of meal choice ideas written up with humour in chalk on the dark grey wall – you can try practising a few well chosen Greeks words, again with the help of the ‘large dark grey wall!’ No matter what the weather Yiayias restaurant is a good choice for a great evening out with friends or a quick meal before a movie. They have a delicious and well priced menu
Specialities such as Baklava, Souvlaki, Mezze and prawns ensure guests can have a truly memorable Mediterranean evening. With reports such as ‘best topping laden and crispy thin crust pizza in town’ and ‘best pasta I have had’ makes a visit to try out Yiayias very tempting. The Italian chef prepares each pizza base and there is a great choice of toppings.
Don’t miss the Flamenco dancers who entertain the guests at Yiayias most Saturday evenings from about 7pm.
Functions: Yiayias can be booked for functions and there is seating for up to 105 guests. Please speak to Michael to discuss menus options and what can be arranged.

February 2012 What a pleasant surprise!
Gerdie Smit from Richmond Hill
I went to Yiayias last night and what a delightful experience it was! We ordered the mezze platter and a pizza with pastrami, tomato and mushroom. With that we had a glass of house red each - a rather full glass, that is! What a delicious combination! The food was obviously freshly prepared and the prices is definitely worth another visit! With a tip included the bill came to just under R200. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. I will definitely be back! It is also very nice to know, and see, that one can have such a wonderful evening out (I live just off Stanley street) without breaking the bank! Other restaurants in this district should take note of this little gem.
