Ecuador Overview

Ecuador

Sometimes big things come in small packages, and Ecuador is a fine example. Visiting this remarkably diverse country is like experiencing all of South America at once, from the forests of the Amazon to the peaks of the Andes and the beautiful beaches and islands off the Pacific coast.

Ecuador's cities have a lot to offer too, from the Inca ruins of capital Quito, the first city to be classed as a World Heritage Site, to adventure capital Baños at the foot of the Tungurahua volcano, the ideal base for hiking into the mountains or getting acquainted with local wildlife and native villages in the Amazonas jungle.

The attractions of Ecuador don't stop when you meet the ocean. Take a day trip to the Galapagos Islands, 600 miles off Ecuador's coast, to see the incredible creatures that led Charles Darwin to discover evolution, or trace the Inca Empire right back to its source by crossing the border to Peru.

Important information about Ecuador travel
