Passports and IDs (for EU citizens) must have at least 6 months remaining validity from the day of entry into the country .

For visits longer than 3 months, ALL visitors must register with the local police authority ('Questura'), within 8 days of arrival in the country. Students or the unemployed will need to prove they have enough funds not to be a burden on the state's social security or sickness insurance schemes.

For Students

If you intend to stay in Italy longer than 90 days for study, you can request a Visa at the Italian Embassy in your country with the following: 2 recent passport size photograph;  1 application form duly completed and signed at the Consulate;  Passport valid three months over planned stay in Italy;  Copy of the passport page containing holder’s data and those mentioning an extension of validity. You will need a letter of acceptance from school or University in Italy indicating place, duration of the course and dates of attendance;  A letter addressed to this Italian Consulate, stating that you own private means of support.  If you are a recipient of financial aid, please submit a statement;  A letter from your bank indicating your account number, financial status, and balance. The letter must be signed by a bank official;  Flight reservations (round trip).
