Drink Ribeira Sacra Wine tours

The origins of the winery of Regina Viarum lie in roman times in the Ribeira Sacra wine region on the steeply terrraced banks of the River Sil where the romans cultivated grapes and produced wines to supply Rome.

The term Ribeira Sacra was initially used by Queen Teresa of Portugal in 1124, when she mentions 'rivoyra sacrata' in order to make reference to the great abundance of hermitages and monasteries located in the final course of the River Sil, thanks to the discovey of a document in the possession of the monastery of Montederramo. Also it was used later to make mention to the margins of the River Miño, from Portomarín to Os Peares. From this millennium origin it leaves the election of the name of the Bodega, Regina Viarum,a term with which the Romans talked about as 'the queen of the routes' : The Appia Route. Our wines are a tribute to those men and women who from the second century taught to us that to obtain a unique wine requires a great sacrifice. Men and women who have given to us the love of the wine and land that after more than 2,000 years of still continuous history is still surprising the world with its wines.

Bodegas Regina Viarum is situated in Doade, Amandi, Lugo Province in the heart of Ribeira Sacra. Although of recent construction the design and appearance of the cellars reflect the roman heritage but equipped with the latest modern wine-making equipment.

Armandi represents the essence of this unique land with unrepeatable quality grapes. The orientation of the wines, the method of cultivation, the location on the hillsides of the River Sill, the brightness of the climate and special selection of grapes, permit the creation of a unique wine with qualities only acquired in these lands.

Bodegas Regina Viarum have the firm intention of creating wines of outstanding quality and to secure this excellence in wine there are three reasons:the vineyard, the production and the wine.

Notable wines include Regina Viarum (white-Godello and red- Mencia including a new, organic version and Expresion elaborated in french oak barrels),Via Appia and Via Imperial.
