This is a great gastronomic festival which celebrates the lamprey,a remarkable pre-historic like fish/crustacean and the recipes used which make eating it an amazing experience! The lamprey is only present in the River Mino but migrates each year over vast sea distances. It resembles a Giant conger eel and is considered a local delicacy either side of the Mino in Portugal or Galicia but is also widely sold throughout Spain. Cured smoked lamprey stuffed with ham and peppers and thinly sliced like a smoked sausage and served with potato salad (in lemon mayonnaise) is one of the greatest dishes in Galicia! Its washed down with the local wine,alvarino from an incredible variety of different local bodegas like Bodeags As Laxas which stretch across the landscape, hills and the rich fertile plains of the Mino River. One of the top festivals of the year.

There's a local museum in Arbo worth visiting to learn nore about the lamprea and local wines, its called Arbo Wine and Lamprey Visitor Centre
