ON THE ROAD R328 BETWEEN MOSSEL BAY (35KIM) AND OUDTSHOORN (50KM)

TRAVELLING FROM CAPE TOWN ON THE N2 (COASTAL ROAD)
(420 Kilometres + - Four and a Half Hours Drive)

Approaching Mossel Bay after passing the Mosgas refinery site on the N2, do not take the exit road into the town of Mossel Bay. However, proceed along the N2 in the direction of George for approximately 4 kilometres until you reach the road exit number 393, signposted HARTENBOS R102 / OUDTSHOORN R328. Take this exit road, turn left at the yield sign and left again at the traffic lights opposite the industrial area, onto the R102.
Proceed along the R102 past the little town of Hartenbos (+-3kms) and over the bridge (above the N2), the road then becomes the R328 to OUDTSHOORN. From this point, Eight Bells is situated approximately 28 kms inland on the R328 which passes the hotel’s front entrance, 1km from the foot of the Robinson Pass. Please note that there are no signs on the R328 directing you to the Robinson Pass, but only to Oudtshoorn.

TRAVELLING FROM PORT ELIZABETH/KNYSNA/GEORGE ON THE N2
(380 Kilometres + - Four Hours Drive)

After passing Great Brak and Little Brak river, approximately 10kms before the town of Mossel Bay, take the exit number 397 off the N2, signposted HARTENBOS R102 / OUDTSHOORN R328. Turn left at the yield sign travelling below the N2 Bridge. At the stop street, turn left onto the R102 signposted HARTENBOS. Proceed for approximately 1 to 2 kms along the R102 and over the Hartenbos River Bridge to the crossroad. Here, turn right onto the R328 in the direction of Oudtshoorn. Travel inland for approximately 28km on the R328 and the road passes the hotel’s entrance at the foot of the Robinson Pass. Please note that there are no signs directing you to the Robinson Pass on the R328, only to Oudtshoorn.

TRAVELLING FROM CAPE TOWN / MONTAGU / CALITZDORP IN THE DIRECTION OF OUDTSHOORN ON THE R62 SCENIC ROUTE (INLAND ROAD)
(480 Kilometres + - Five Hours Drive)

Travelling from Montagu / Calitzdorp on the R62, a large vertical concrete map is situated on the right-hand side of the road on the border of the town of Oudtshoorn. At this point, turn to your right onto the R328 signposted to MOSSEL BAY. Eight Bells is situated 50km from this point on the coastal side of the Robinson Mountain Pass. Travelling along the R328 to Eight Bells, you will pass the Safari and Highgate Ostrich Show Farms. Eight Bells can be clearly seen when descending the Robinson Pass. The road passes the hotel’s front entrance. Please note that no signs direct you on the R328 to the Robinson Pass, but only to the town of Mossel Bay.

Eight Bells Mountain Inn, situated in the beautiful Ruiterbos Valley Region, is at the foot of the Robinson Pass on the R328, which runs from Mossel Bay to Oudtshoorn. This beautiful and picturesque mountainous area of the Garden Route is just 35km from Mossel Bay and only 50 km from Oudtshoorn where the world renowned Cango Caves can be visited.

The wide selection of outdoor activities include a large bell shaped swimming pool (with small kiddies pool, a thatched boma and sun loungers), a bowling green, two all-weather tennis courts, a glass-back squash court, various well marked and colour-coded Rooster walking trails and horse trails. If weather permits a guide will accompany you on the twice daily outrides and there is a paddock where beginners can learn to ride. Guests will certainly not be able to say there is nothing to do!

Renowned for excellent service and welcoming friendly hospitality Eight Bells has 25 delightfully decorated en suite bedrooms, family units, thatched rondavels and air- conditioned log cabins all surrounded by enchanting gardens, a wide range of bird life and beautiful mountain scenery.

Having enjoyed everything the Inn and the area has to offer you will be delighted to know that there is a mouthwatering breakfast consisting of a buffet and a full cooked English breakfast served in The Oak Room Restaurant and complimentary mid-morning and afternoon tea is served on the inside Patio. During the day, guests may order from a mini a’ la Carte menu, and from a choice of beverages, teatime treats and light snacks. These may be enjoyed in the gardens, at the pool side or on the enclosed Patio.

An a’ la Carte or table d’hote menu is available for dinner in the Oak Room Restaurant. The comprehensive wine list has an excellent variety of South Africa’s finest wines.

The Boson’s Whistle Pub is open in the evenings for resident guests to enjoy.

In the main reception area is the elegant and gracious lounge area and the Oak Room Restaurant. A billiard room, children’s lounge and a delightful enclosed sunroom and exterior patio area is also there for guests to enjoy.

Children are welcome and well catered for. There is a play park area, a children's dining room and play area, and every day after breakfast there is a donkey cart ride.
