Our Local Experts say:

Japanese food is considered the next favorite cuisine after Chinese foods in Hong Kong. All the fresh sushi platters are shipped from the Tsukiji market every day. Small sushi bars and all-you-can-eat Japanese restaurants can be found in Hong Kong.

Japanese restaurants are famous for their fish, tempura (deep-fried seafood or veggies in batter), sashimi (a slice of raw fish or seafood eaten with sauce and wasabi) and sushi (a slice of raw fish rolled together with raw rice and secured by seaweed, then eaten with sauce and wasabi). Side dishes are miso soup and sukiyaki (sliced beef and vegetables). Also, their food is nicely decorated Zen style, achieving a look of the Japanese culture. Like Cantonese restaurants, Japanese restaurants are also everywhere in Hong Kong. To save some costs, it is advisable to eat in these restaurants during lunch hour.
