Our Local Experts say:
Trout fishing in Ireland attracts anglers back year after year. Because of the endless rivers, lakes and loughs it is one of the last places to catch wild brown trout. There are numerous tour operators to help you find all you need to know.
Most waterways in Ireland are owned either privately or by the state and a permit is often required to fish. Fishing for trout usually starts in February and can run until September. Many of the waterways are leased to Fishing Clubs or associations and they will grant a permit to fish for certain periods.
