Over the past number of years Ireland has extended its motorway network, making it much easier to drive between the main urban centres in the country.

However to make the most of a road trip around Ireland, you will see more of the country towns and rural landscape by leaving the motorways and taking to the National Primary and Secondary routes. There are many interesting sites throughout the country that can be accessed more easily if you have your own car as public transport outside the main cities can be limited.
