My Destination is focused on offering unrivalled levels of local information. This is what we pride ourselves on, and it's our promise to our users.
Therefore, each destination is run by a team on the ground who have their fingers on the pulse and write from a first-hand experience, whether they are trying out places to eat, visiting sites of interest, undertaking activities, exploring hidden 'secrets', and speaking to the locals who are 'in-the-know'. Our local experts take every effort to accurately capture this information through photography, videos, virtual tours and writings. It can be truly said that our content is fresh, local and 'hand-made'.
Alper has a major in industrial engineering but never ended up doing anything engineering related! Instead he got the Finance bug and has been working in the banking and finance sector for the last 6 years. He has always been looking for an entrepreneurial opportunity and like to take on new challenges, when he came across My Destination he decided that now was the time to take on his own project. Having lived in Istanbul for 12 years, he still finds it a fascinating city, the culture, the bustling nightlife, the diversity and the way of life that is seen and experienced in Istanbul.
The site’s writer and editor, Helen Simpson, hails all the way from New Zealand. Helen, who is a graduate of Political Science and English literature, travelled through Turkey intending to visit for only a few weeks. It didn’t take long before she was captivated by the beauty and energy of Istanbul and decided to stay. After a stint living in Sultanahmet, Beyoglu and finally Kadiköy, Helen was introduced to many of the common queries and problems visitors face when in Istanbul and wanted to do something to make the city more accessible to foreigners.
Meeting Helen was the event which encouraged Alper to take up this challenge. During their first meeting, they realized that they were both on the same frequency and decided to work together to share their enthusiasm for Istanbul.
"I am really excited about My Destination Istanbul, I believe it will be a big challenge for a city as big as Istanbul...but I am very confident of achieving success and having a great time with the support of the MyDestination team and network."
