 Karisma Sen Restaurant OverviewWith a history dating back to 1938, Karisma Sen Restaurant offers traditional Turkish tastes in a spectacular location. Situated along the coastal road just downhill from Sultanahmet, this Istanbul meyhane (taverna restaurant) is just steps away from the Marmara Sea.
Founded by the Nacar family, the traditional Ahirkapi yali (waterside mansion) was once home to the Senyuva Waterside Night-club where some of Turkey's most famous singers would perform.
Karisma Sen restaurant, which was renovated in 2008, remains especially popular with locals. It has witnessed many local celebrities pass through its doors, from actors Zeki Müren and Sadri Alisik to renowned street photographer Ara Güler.
The restaurant's comprehensive Mediterranean-Aegean menu features a wide range of hot and cold seasonal mezes, grills and seafood, from olive oil-rich vegetable dishes to daily fresh fish. Karisma Sen's beverage menu also offers a selection of hot and cold drinks including beer, wine and raki.

After browsing the web (as a result of aimless wandering about and being hollered at obnoxiously from every restaurant in the area)... i found this spot! I never write online reviews, but this place lacks a web thumbs up, so i figured i owed it to them for being a bright spot in my evening.
It was very quaint yet lively. full of locals and a warm host. i wish i understood her language because she was really lighting up the room.
from the moment i entered the place it was like being at home.. and im from texas. i take friendliness very seriously. the fact that i was absolutely no where near home was always charming and the food was excellent! fresh and flavorful.
I had a few healthy cold vegetable starters, a wonderful glass of wine, and a delicious main fish. simple and very good. the service was amazing (they even helped me get my coat on). did i mention im not rich? i will totally be going back.
