Pretoriuskop Camp Overview

Pretoriuskop Camp

Pretoriuskop is one of the Kruger Park’s oldest rest camps, and its location in the south western part of the reserve and just 9 kilometres from Numbi gate make it particularly convenient for visitors driving up from Johannesburg. The camp gets its name from the voortrekker Willem Pretorius – this intrepid explorer is buried not far from the camp at the hill of the same name.

The area was particularly popular in the period between 1835 and 1860, when Voortrekkers, who were Dutch colonists who left the Cape in pursuit of political independence from British administration, regularly passed through the region, setting up many trading posts in the process. As such, the rest camp and its surrounds ooze nostalgia, and are particularly historically significant.

Pretoriuskop Game Viewing

While Pretoriuskop and its surrounds regularly rewards visitors with sightings of wild dog, cheetah and leopard, much of its charm lies in the fascinating birds and wildlife that roam the region. Sightings of black and white rhino, elephant, hartebeest, sable, eland and buffalo are possible, and the diverse flora attracts a variety of birdlife.

Common in the area: Lion, Elephant, Buffalo, White Rhino, and a variety of general wildlife. This area is excellent for woodland birds.

If you are lucky you may see: Leopard, Wild Dog, Cheetah, Black Rhino or Sable Antelope.

Pretoriuskop Accommodation

The camp itself offers a number of accommodation options, from small cottages and bungalows to well-maintained camp sites and luxurious guest houses. Check Pretoriuskop pricing and availability.

Pretoriuskop Camp - Reviews

Great to visit Pretoriuskop Again !
John from Joburg

I haven't visited this camp for a long time - mainly because the rooms were pretty old and drab looking. What a surprise I got from my visit a few weeks ago. I found a camp recently modernized with new accommodation - and comfortable beds!! And its nice to have the cafeteria as well. We loved the scenery in the south - and we saw a pack or wild dog nearby - we'll be back again!
