Soweto Hotel Overview

Situated at Walter Sisulu Square of Dedication, a tourist draw card, in Soweto's oldest suburb, is the four-star Soweto Hotel. The four-star Soweto Hotel offers accommodation at an international standard to the more than 200 000 tourists who visit the township every year.

This Hotel forms part of the Walter Sisulu Square mixed-use precinct initiated by the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC). The Kliptown project comprises the hotel, the recently opened Kliptown Museum, retail, restaurant and office space as well as an informal trading area. The JPC has signed a 10-year lease with empowerment group Zatic Hotels and Resorts to operate the hotel. Capello, the restaurant chain, plans to open a restaurant on the square soon.

The hotel is easily accessible from the Golden Highway and, with additional policing and security, the safety of guests and visitors is ensured.

Soweto Hotel Rooms:

The Soweto Hotel has 48 rooms, including two suites, the Oliver R Thambo and Chief Albert Luthuli suites; two executive boardrooms, the Winifred Mandela room and the Helen Joseph room. Families are catered for in the 10 inter-leading rooms. The passages are called The Long Walk to Freedom - it is indeed a very long passage - and Unsung Heroes.

The luxury rooms cost R1 500 per person for one night, bed and breakfast. Deluxe suites cost R2 700 per night.

Soweto Hotel Restaurants & Bars:

The Soweto Hotel has the interestingly named Jazz Maniacs restaurant, and also Rusty's cocktail bar, which is named after Rusty Bernstein, who assisted with the drafting of the Freedom Charter.

The Soweto Hotel on Freedom Square offers lunch and dinner buffets for groups for all occasions:

Society Stockvels, Church Groups, Birthday Parties, Anniversaries, Office Festive Season Parties.

AND MORE!

Staff are excellent and the Management superb
Doug and Anne Petersen from Sweden

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You ! We have had a wonderful week at the Soweto Hotel and in Kliptown. The Staff are excellent and the Management superb! We especially appreciate the great thoughtfulness and care that everyone shared. We will be back! Thanks for your hospitality! We've enjoyed our week of exploring and meeting great people in Kliptown. Foon was great, Sky Tour fun and engaging, and the location great to get to anywhere in the Joburg Area. Blessings and Best wishes in the pursuit of the wonderful inspiring adventure.

Jazz on the Stoep - great afternoon!
Peter and Wendy

My wife and I traveled in from the suburbs to experience our first Jazz on the Stoep last Sunday. What we found was not some artificial occasion put on to impress the tourists, but a real, genuine, down to earth gathering of Soweto residents and their friends who had come to enjoy themselves. We really enjoyed the Chisa Nyama Skewer (with chicken, wors and lamb !!) and pap, washed down with some excellent Cape Legend Wine, and we were very impressed with the cool professionalism of Indyebo Jazz Band. Lindiwe could be seen attending to her guests at all times (including us), making them all feel at home - she is obviously well liked amongst her customers - or perhaps friends. When it rained we were ushered inside, and the chatter and laughter from the buffet in the dining room made us understand that this was the place to which people had come to enjoy themselves, before the beginning of a hectic work week the next day! Our only regret ? that we did not bring a whole crowd of our own friends with us to share an afternoon of fun at the Soweto Hotel. However ..... there will always be a next time ! Peter and Wendy

Classy in Kliptown nogall!!!

the decor of this hotel is absolutey amazing - tasteful understated elegance; this hotel can give a few upmarket establishments a run for their money. The food is sooo good; Chef Junior really cooks from the heart...

Gem in Soweto

This has to be one of Soweto's most prized treasures! We spent a night there - 4 star luxury in the heart of this buzzing cultural hub - and it was great! And good African food! A must for locals and visitors!

Great African Hotel !
Peter from Sandton

I went to the Soweto Hotel today. I was really amazed at the wonderful atmosphere inside the Hotel. Filled with black and white photos of Soweto in the early days, one is surrounded by history and at the same time the comfort of a modern 4 star hotel. The personnel were also very helpful and attentive - I am definitely going to stay there sometime !!
