Northcliff Hill Viewpoint Overview

Northcliff Hill, also known as Aasvoels Kop (Vultures Head), possesses a unique and panoramic view of Johannesburg.

As you travel through the high-end suburb of Northcliff, you pass majestic houses and immaculate lawns; and, as you travel further up the ridge, towards the water tower, you witness breathtaking views.

The top of this koppie (hill) is where you want to be. With plenty of rocks, natural vegetation and 360 degree views, this spot is considered by many as a "breathing space". There are pathways to walk along, and perches to find when taking in a magnificent sunset, with only peace and quiet in the air.

Northcliff Hill is believed to have been inhabited by humans for over 250 000 years, and stands at a 1807 metres high, merely one metre lower than Observatory Ridge, which is the highest point in Johannesburg. It is also useful that there is security and parking space available.

The ridge overlooks the northern suburbs on one side, and the central business district on the other. One a clear day you can even see as far as the Magaliesberg Mountains and the Cradle of Humankind. One also gets a birds eye view of the leafy nearby suburbs with sparkling swimming pools, tennis courts, and fresh green canopies of trees in bloom.

A must see...
Johnny from Marbella

A must see for anyone visiting Johannesburg. Amazing views that can't really be appreciated in the video. For the best experience go at night and see the city lights of Johannesburg in all their glory.

Hi Johnny - we agree with you - its almost unknown to visitors to our City, which is why we like to promote it. We enjoy seeing the thunderstorms rolling in around Joburg - great atmosphere! (But don't stay up there if there is lightening about!).
