Tshokwane is easily recognized by the circular thatched roof running around an enormous Sausage tree in the middle. Being almost equidistant from 3 of the Parks largest Camps, Satara, Skukuza and Lower Sabie, it is one of the busiest picnic sites, together with Afsaal, in the Park.
Facilities
Because of its size, the cafeteria at Tshokwane is privatized, and there is a "braai" (barbecue) kiosk, where you can find some of the South African's favourite weekend food. The shop is not well stocked with souvenirs or clothing, so save your purchasing for the main camps. However, snacks, cold drinks and sweets are available.
Gas cylinders are available for hire, and tables are placed under the shade of the trees, as well as the thatched area below the well known sausage tree.
Tshokwane Features
The main feature of Tshokwane is the Sausage tree which stands proudly above the thatched roof which surrounds it.
Tshokwane Location
Tshokwane is 1km north of the point where the H10 meets the H1-2. In relation to main camps, it is 50km/2hr south of Satara on the H1-3; 48km/1hr 45min north of Skukuza on the H1-2, and 54km/2hr from Lower Sabie along the H10.
