Cottars 1920's Safari Camp Overview

Guests will feel that they have stepped back in time at the luxurious Cottars 1920’s Safari Camp, Mara. This small luxury camp is located in the Masai Mara, on the border of the Serengeti and Loliondo reserves, in an area with little tourist development, ensuring privacy. (The camp itself is in a private concession, and is not in a game park.) The staff seeks to provide guests with a unique experience reminiscent of the 1920s, when a safari trip epitomized adventure and romance. Various safari packages are available, including trips to other camps. The Cottar Safari began in 1919, and is still family owned. The Camp is a member of the Classic Safari Camps of Africa.

Cottars 1920's Safari Camp Rooms:

The camp consists of white canvas tents, and can accommodate a total of only twelve guests at a time. The tents are furnished with antique furniture, and have private dressing rooms and bathrooms. There is an air of elegance, with lace-draped wooden trunks, brass gramophones, and richly colored upholstery. Additional beds for children are available. The bathrooms have flush toilets and old-fashioned showers. Guests can enjoy the view while relaxing on chaise-lounges or canvas rocking chairs.

Cottars 1920's Safari Camp Restaurants & Bars:

Meals and drinks (including soft drinks, house wines and beers, and non-luxury liquors) are included in the room rate. There is a large tented dining room decorated with antiques. Private meals can be served in the bush upon request.

Cottars 1920's Safari Camp Facilities:

“Off road” game drives are offered, with professional and experienced guides; 2 drives per day are included in the room rates. Four-wheel drive vehicles or an old wood-paneled car can be used. Guided walks led by trained trackers are also included in the room rates. Owner Calvin Cottar (the grandson of the camp’s founder) can serve as your guide for an additional fee. There is a tented reading room, including African literature and magazines. Guests can receive complimentary massages (one per stay), manicures and pedicures. Butler service is provided for all guests, and laundry is included in the rates. The camp can host small, unique weddings. The camp supports local conservation and development programs. The staff is happy to help with recommendations and travel arrangements to other sites in Kenya.
