This small camp consists only of tents, set up in a grove of the elephant pepper trees that give the camp its name, and can accommodate a maximum of 22 guests. The camp is closed for two months of the year. The camp does not have a generator, and seeks to minimize its environmental impact. The camp is part of the Cheli & Peacock Portfolio of properties. Elephant Pepper Camp Rooms: Guests stay in large canvas tents, with en-suite bathrooms. The bathrooms have environmentally friendly toilets and traditional safari-style showers. There are seven tents that are furnished as double or twin units, and one honeymoon/family tent. The standard tents have a main bedroom, and a private verandah with lounge furniture and a hammock. The beds and chairs are decorated with colorful fabrics, and the décor is rustic in style. The tents have room for one extra bed, which can be used for a child of less than 16 years of age. The honeymoon tent has a larger verandah with a dining area, and has room for two extra children’s beds if required. Its bathroom has double sinks. Elephant Pepper Camp Restaurants & Bars: Guests eat communally in the dining tent. Breakfast can be served in the bush upon request. Elephant Pepper Camp Facilities: Guests can take day and night game drives, and guided walks. All of the guides are highly qualified and trained. The camp can also arrange cultural visits to local Maasai villages for a small fee, which goes directly to the village itself. The camp is Bronze-rated by the Eco-tourism Society of Kenya for its environmentally friendly practices, and works to support the local Maasai community with educational and other initiatives.
