![]() Sarova Shaba Game Lodge OverviewThe Sarova Shaba Game Lodge, Samburu is located on the Shaba National Reserve, in North Kenya. The lodge is built in a volcanic desert around an oasis, on the Uaso Nyiro River. There are also more than 350 types of birds in the area, making it a favorite place for bird watchers. Children are welcome, but younger children must be constantly supervised due to the resort’s many water features. Guests can reach the lodge by flying from Nairobi to the Shaba or Samburu airstrips, or by a five-hour drive. It is part of the Sarova Hotels property group. Sarova Shaba Game Lodge Rooms: The chalet-style guest rooms are in two-storey thatched buildings, and overlook the river or the game park. The décor is African-influenced, with wood and rattan pieces. There are eighty standard rooms furnished as doubles and twins, ten deluxe rooms, four executive suites, and a presidential suite. All of the accommodations have private balconies. The beds are draped with mosquito netting and have duvets for warmth on cold evenings. The en-suite bathrooms have showers and toilets, and have running hot and cold water and electrical outlets. The rooms have electrical power from 6 am to midnight. Guests can make their own morning tea or Kenyan coffee. The Executive Suites have an additional lounge area, and the bedrooms have views of the river and the forest. The Presidential Suite is in its own structure and has a living and dining room, a large bedroom, and a bathroom with its own private Jacuzzi tub. Sarova Shaba Game Lodge Restaurants & Bars: The main Surpelei Restaurant overlooks the river and the swimming pool. Its menu includes a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner with African, Asian and European dishes, and a salad buffet. The lodge’s own garden provides some of the vegetables and herbs. Children’s meals are available. Guests can also have a champagne breakfast or sundowner cocktails by the river or a barbeque bush dinner. Upon request, the lodge can arrange private al fresco meals, or a picnic hamper for longer excursions. Guests can relax with a drink at the Chemi Chemi riverbank bar, and there is also a bar at the swimming pool. Sarova Shaba Game Lodge Facilities: Guests can take guided safari game drives in the lodge’s own vehicles in the famous Shaba National Reserve. Camel safaris are an option, and guests can also visit a Samburu village and learn about the local traditions, culture, and handicrafts. Naturalist-led guided walks provide a relaxing and educational escape. There is a free-form swimming pool in the hotel garden. Guests can borrow board games, or play darts or pool. A variety of massages are available, and can even be done outdoors in the wild. The hotel has special activities for children, and babysitting is available upon request. There are meeting rooms available for up to 100 delegates, provided with audio-visual equipment. Wedding and honeymoon packages are offered, and the ceremonies and celebrations can incorporate local traditions, fabrics, dancing and handicrafts. The lodge is surrounded by a double electric fence which is always active. |
