Our Locals' Tip: The Ewaso Ng'iro river often floods during the rainy season and has reached as high as the tents at Intrepids. They have been redesigned so you shouldn't need to worry, but it can be quite a dramatic time to visit with the huge waves of brown mud roaring down the river like an angry ogre.
The Samburu Intrepids camp is located about 345 km north of Nairobi in the Samburu National Reserve Game Park. This luxury safari camp overlooks a river that serves as a drinking place for many local species, including elephants, zebra and giraffes. Guests stay in tents set among ancient trees, and enjoy modern comforts while being close to the exotic natural world of Kenya. Packages include airfare from and to Nairobi, transfer from the airstrips, shared game drives, park fees, and full board. The camp is a member of Heritage Hotels.
Samburu Intrepids Rooms
The camp has 27 tents equipped with en-suite bathrooms. The tents have palm thatch roofs and wooden balconies, and are raised up on platforms. They are furnished with four-poster beds draped in white mosquito netting, and desks and closets made from mahogany. The bathrooms have two sinks, flush toilets, and showers with hot water. There are electrical outlets in the bathrooms. Children must be at least two years of age, and are charged a reduced rate depending on their accommodations. Please see the property’s website for details.
Samburu Intrepids Restaurants & Bars
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served buffet-style. The main dining room has an outdoor terrace overlooking the river. Guests can also enjoy meals on their private balconies or at selected sites in the bush. There is also a bar and lounge for guests to relax in which overlooks the river.
Samburu Intrepids Facilities
Guests can take guided game drives or nature walks within the reserve. Tours of local Samburu villages are also offered. The camp has nightly talks and presentations on wildlife and local culture. There is a free-form swimming pool and a garden. Guests can book sessions of “professional flex body therapy.” There is a boutique with souvenirs and necessities. To keep younger members of your party amused, there's an Adventurers’ Club for children up to the ages of 14. A small conference room is equipped with a VCR and a television. The camp also has reliable telephone service, as well as e-mail, fax and postal facilities.
