Rutunda Overview

"I took her up somewhere nice in Kenya and I proposed," said Prince William" when describing his engagement to Kate Middleton.

The two were staying at the Rutundu Log Cabins in the Mount Kenya Region, when Prince William proposed, reconfirming Kenya's profile as a top romantic holiday destination.

Found on the northern slopes of Mount Kenya, the Rutundu Log Cabins are nestled in the foothills of Mount Kenya. The air is clear, and this completely private setting is home to a unique range of bird life and vegetation. The log cabins both have gorgeous views of Lake Rutundu among the gently rolling countryside.

Recommended for:

This remote and beautiful part of the world is the perfect romantic retreat for those looking for privacy and seclusion.

Rutunda Accommodation:

There are two log cabins in total each with open fires, en-suite bathrooms and flush toilets. There is a sitting room (with dining area) a veranda and kitchen. Four people can be housed comfortably, but extra beds can be added to provide enough room for eight.

Rutunda Facilities:

These traditional style ‘log cabins’ use moss to fill the gap between logs. The rustic style of the interior is cosy and intimate - perfect for honeymooners and those needing a peaceful haven away from it all.

Rutunda Location:

The cabins come with a staff who will ensure that your stay is comfortable and that you're well taken for. Rutundu offers outdoor activities for guests and knowledgeable guides can lead horse rides, hikes and fishing trips and generally, look-after Rutundu guests. Two lakes are close by which offer excellent trout fishing (up to 6 pounders if you're lucky). River fishing in the Kizita gorge offers mountain spring water busting with life fresh from the mountain. Sharing similar characteristics to the Highlands of Scotland, the cedar forests and heather moorland offers lovely walking terrain and unbeatable views - perfect for picnics and photographic moments. A nearby farm has polo ponies which can be ridden through the rolling countryside..
